At The Community Gym, we value building our coaches upon investment, commitment, and foundational instructor skills. We’re looking for aspiring coaches, long time members, and those who resonate with our values to refine their abilities in a weekend leadership workshop. Whether you’re an existing coach wanting to level up, and fitness enthusiast interested in stepping into the spotlight, or just looking for an immersive weekend to gain new skills and confidence, we want to work with you!

MEET YOUR TEAM

DAN

I’ve always been passionate about performance and commanding a room. I’m an educator turned fitness instructor and part-time DJ, having worked in schools and professional theatre environments over the past decade. I have always loved to be the centre of attention, the star of the show.

However, this hasn’t come easy. It’s taken time to build a persona, overcome impostor syndrome, and speak from a place that feels authentic to who I am. My time at The Community Gym has reassured me that the ongoing discoveries are so, so worth it. The leader I am today is built off of consistent commitment to choosing, challenging, and inspiring myself.

As a former high school Drama and English teacher, I worked with teenagers to unlock the magic behind authentic voice; taking risks and getting uncomfortable. After years of being Mr. Grant, I’m ready to pass that knowledge along to you! In the group fitness world, I aim to help others find balance in their uniqueness. Confident, not cocky. Bold, not boisterous. Relatable, not redundant. I’m here to help you build the beginnings of coaching in a space that means the world to me!

ZEF

Hi! I’m Zephyra, aka Zef. I have been teaching group fitness for over a decade. I am also a visual artist, author, and mother. I teach all seven disciplines at The Community Gym (including CARE, our first pre/post natal class, which I developed!), and am also the Program Manager, responsible for curating all Community Gym classes, and overseeing coach training and professional development.

As a former competitive gymnast, dancer, and pianist, coaching allows me to combine my natural strengths of musicality, athleticism, and creativity into an immersive experience that I can share with others. There truly is an art to coaching group fitness, which I have spent years confidently cultivating.

Being present and finding flow are key to the way I approach not only coaching, but daily life. They are practices that have shaped where I am today, a former, burnt-out architect turned proud group fitness coach! I bring my years of experience in the fitness industry and my passion for presence and flow to help you uncover a grounded confidence that can take you anywhere.

COURSE

So, what is FOUNDATIONS after all?

FOUNDATIONS is a 3 day, intensive weekend aimed at introducing and building the foundational skills to becoming a fitness coach. Geared towards the unique style and values of The Community Gym, these workshops touch on coaching basics, goal setting, voice and performance, and musicality. Included in this weekend is a special Community Gym class and an opportunity to get on the mic in front of your peers!
